GENERAL CLUB INFORMATION
Q: What are the benefits of joining the Trilogy Genealogy Club?
Our club’s goal is to provide members with an organized framework to research their genealogy and family history. The club will help you begin, develop and refine your genealogy and family history through regular club meetings, a website and a monthly newsletter that contains copies of presentations, resources, ideas, and tips as well as support from other members. So, whether you are a beginner, have already begun your journey or have a lot of experience in Genealogy, the club has something for everyone while giving you a supportive environment to continue your journey.
Q: When and where does the Trilogy Genealogy Club meet?
The Trilogy Genealogy Club holds monthly club meetings the first Monday of the month during September through June. If the first Monday is a national holiday (possibly January, July, September & November), the meeting will be moved to the 2nd Monday (see website for upcoming meeting dates). The club meets from 1-3 pm in the Kiva Club’s Center for Higher Learning. (See Genealogy Summer School FAQ for info on club meetings during low attendance months of July and August.)
Q: Do I need a laptop or tablet for monthly meetings? What if I don’t have one?
Laptops or tablets are NOT required for monthly meetings. Some meetings include hands-on workshops where laptops or tablets are useful to maximize learning. However, we strive to document instructions in sufficient detail so that workshop tips can be reproduced at home.
Q: I’m not very tech savvy. Will the club content be above my head?
Technical capabilities of members of the Trilogy Genealogy Club range from just beginning to advanced. We have a team of volunteer Tech Aides who are available to work with those needing some technology assistance.
Q: I’m a beginner genealogy researcher and feel overwhelmed. How will the Trilogy Genealogy Club help me?
The club provides a supportive environment to help you begin, develop and refine your genealogy research and family history through regular club meetings, a website and a monthly newsletter that contains copies of presentations, resources, ideas, and tips, as well as support from other members.
Q: I’ve been doing genealogy research for many years. How will the Trilogy Genealogy Club help me?
The diversity of the Trilogy Genealogy Club monthly speaker topics and member willingness to share research tips and techniques almost guarantees that every member walks away from each meeting with one or more genealogy nuggets. In addition, many of our advanced genealogists get great satisfaction in sharing their passion and knowledge by mentoring less advanced genealogists.
Q: What is the Trilogy Genealogy Club Newsletter?
The Trilogy Genealogy Club Newsletter is a relatively recent addition to the club’s offerings and varies by author. The newsletter typically recaps information from the latest monthly meeting, describes upcoming meetings, and may include other valuable genealogy articles including US/foreign research, technology tools, website and software tips and tricks, etc. The newsletter is distributed by email to club members, and posted on the MEMBERS pages of the website for the most recent calendar year. Additionally, an archive containing newsletters from the prior two calendar years is available on the public ABOUT section of the Trilogy Genealogy club website to members and non-members alike.
Q: Does a videotaped meeting archive exist so I can watch meetings at my leisure?
The technological challenges of video-taped Trilogy Genealogy Club meetings are being explored, so recorded sessions are not currently available, but hope to be in the future.
